Von Miller stuns the NFL world with his 2022 NFL Free Agency decision to sign with the Buffalo Bills on a massive six-year deal.
The 2022 NFL Free Agency frenzy continued into Wednesday with the top two pass rushers coming off the board. Finally, Chandler Jones and Von Miller have new teams for 2022, and they’re both going from the NFC West to AFC clubs.
Jones signed a contract with the Las Vegas Raiders, who also recently just re-signed Maxx Crosby to an extension, giving them a fearsome duo off the edge for the Murderer’s Row of quarterbacks they face in that division.
Von Miller is going from the Los Angeles Rams to…brace yourselves…
…the Buffalo Bills.
Buffalo Bills reel in the big pass rush fish with Von Miller
Von Miller is still one of the best overall EDGE players in the NFL today. He is coming off of a dominant postseason run with the Los Angeles Rams where he won his second Super Bowl title as an NFL player.
With the Buffalo Bills, he will have a chance to get his third.
To go and play for the Bills, who were among a number of potential suitors for Miller including the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Rams, Bills general manager Brandon Beane handed Miller a blank check, essentially.
According to Ian Rapoport, the soon-to-be-32-year-old Von Miller is signing a massive six-year deal with Buffalo worth $120 million.
Those numbers look massive on paper, but how much of that contract Miller actually sees will be based on the guaranteed money in the deal. We have those details available as well:
For those that don’t care to do the mental math, $53 million guaranteed over three years is $17.66 million annually. Overall, this contract is worth $20 million AAV and with $52 million in guaranteed money, Miller finds himself with the largest guarantee of any free agent in the NFL this offseason.
And there was some big money to be thrown around.
Again, Miller is going to be 33 this season. It’s a testament to his overall body of work as a player and the way he approaches taking care of his body that Miller would get such a large guarantee from a team like the Bills, a true contender in the AFC.
The AFC has become an incredible arms race this offseason. Russell Wilson is coming to Denver from Seattle. Chandler Jones is joining the Raiders. The Chargers added former Defensive MVP Khalil Mack and big-time cornerback JC Jackson.
The Bills had to keep pace and the signing of Von Miller is one of just a handful of moves they have made that look really good on paper including a move they made directly after the Von Miller move, signing former first-round tight end OJ Howard who signed for a one-year deal worth up to $5 million.
