Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts deleted a tweet that could have been referring to his team acquiring quarterback Deshaun Watson.

If the Atlanta Falcons are going to trade for quarterback Deshaun Watson, we’ll all look back on the tweet Kyle Pitts had to delete and have a good laugh.

The two biggest quarterback dominoes have fallen in the 2022 NFL offseason. The Packers have retained back-to-back MVP Aaron Rodgers, and the Denver Broncos acquired Russell Wilson in a trade.

Deshaun Watson was always going to be the next biggest name to be moved and it appears after extensive background being done by teams and some recruiting pitches from a variety of them as well, Watson’s decision could be down to two NFC South squads: The Falcons and the New Orleans Saints.

The Saints are the perceived front-runners but the Falcons have been considered a darkhorse throughout the process.

Kyle Pitts spilling the Deshaun Watson beans too early?

Interestingly enough, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network pointed out that Kyle Pitts shares an agent with Deshaun Watson. If anyone was going to find out news prematurely, it could be Pitts although there are certainly other players that share Watson’s agent.

The internet is forever, and while Pitts deleted the tweet, he attempted to cover his tracks by saying it was meant to be a reference to the team’s decision to sign free agent cornerback Casey Hayward.

Perhaps Pitts was actually referring to the signing of Casey Hayward, or perhaps that move was simply made with extremely convenient timing as the Falcons have made it to the final stage of recruiting Deshaun Watson to be their quarterback from here on out.

If that’s the case, there are a lot of moving parts and the worst thing that can happen is for a player to go out on Twitter and spoil it.

If the Falcons are to acquire Watson, they would already have to have a trade package that is acceptable to the Houston Texans. While some have speculated that deal would include Pitts, that would be ridiculous on the part of Atlanta and the Texans would need to settle for someone else.

Watson has a no-trade clause so there would need to be some give and take with the Falcons and Texans regarding players going back to Houston for Watson. The Falcons already have (checks notes) absolutely no one at wide receiver so trading away Pitts, their only weapon on offense, would be detrimental.

Trading away cornerback AJ Terrell as a consolation? Terrell is more than just a consolation as he has developed into one of the best cornerbacks in the league the last couple of seasons.

Reading the tea leaves here, it would make sense that the Falcons would sign a player like Casey Hayward to potentially “replace” Terrell or at least give them a contingency.

All eyes are on Deshaun Watson and new insider Kyle Pitts for what might come next.
