NFL free agency saw some high-profile players sign big-time contracts while others are building depth, but there are some quality free agents on the market.
Day 3 of the 2022 NFL Free Agency period is in the books. Some big names got snatched up quicker than you can say contract. We saw some jaw-dropping signings. Christian Kirk made bank after signing a four-year $84 million contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Chandler Jones didn’t have to wait long to get a massive three-year deal worth $50-million. He wasn’t the only edge rusher to get paid. Randy Gregory almost signed with the Dallas Cowboys but changed his mind. He joined the Denver Broncos on a five-year, $70 million deal, with $28 million guaranteed.
Meanwhile, the Buffalo Bills broke the bank for an edge rusher, Von Miller, who signed a six-year $120 million contract. At age 32, the highest-rated corner was J.C. Jackson left the Patriots for Chargers on a five-year, $82.5 million contract. He wasn’t the only defensive back who got paid. The Baltimore Ravens signed safety Marcus Williams to a five-year $70 million deal.
Those were just the tip of the free-agent iceberg. There are plenty of players on the free-agent market ready to make an impact. Players who are still looking for a contract should choose wisely.
5. Julio Jones, WR, should sign with the Green Bay Packers in NFL Free Agency
Not surprisingly, the Tennessee Titans parted ways with Julio Jones. Injuries caught up with a guy who was once looked at as an elite wideout. He’s not that guy anymore. Thus, playing for a winning team should be his top priority. Jones isn’t a number one wideout. So, he should focus on going to a team with a great quarterback and established core.
Where is Julio Jones in terms of head-space? Has he come to grips with not being a primary target. If so, Jones can come in as the No. 2 or No. 3 option for a team that passes the ball a lot. He could lineup on the boundary or as a big slot and make plays for the great Aaron Rodgers.
While he isn’t the same guy he once was, he can still run solid in-breaking routes. He’s a highpoint wideout who can also still play on the boundary. Davante Adams refused to play on a franchise tag. Maybe Jones may get a chance to be a top target by default.
