NFL Free Agency under the radar signing No. 1: Cedrick Wilson, WR, Miami Dolphins
The Dallas Cowboys’ mistake is the Miami Dolphins’ gain. Dallas traded Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns as they tried to free up some cap space to keep more of their offensive weapons together. They did use the room to extend Michael Gallup but then lost Cedrick Wilson who signed with the Dolphins on a three-year deal worth $22 million.
Wilson isn’t going to come to Miami and be the No. 1 guy but what he can do is give them a versatile player who can do a lot of things very well. A former sixth-round pick from Boise State back in 2018, Wilson broke out in 2021 with 45 receptions for 602 yards and six touchdowns.
He added 11 yards on two rushes but also showed off his arm as he was 3-of-3 for 88 yards when faking the run and throwing the ball. In his career, he’s now 5-of-5 passing and as stated by the NFL Twitter page, he brings a new wrinkle to this offense.
Mike McDaniel is an offensive genius who has been working with Kyle Shanahan for many years. He’s also using the same formula we saw in San Francisco where they’re not going out and adding huge names but rather picking up players who can do things that fit well in their offense.
Cedrick Wilson is one such player who seems to be tailor-made for McDaniel. He might not ever be a Pro Bowl player but he’s going to make a mark in Miami and prove to be a steal, even if his signing went largely under the radar.
