Green Bay Packers mock draft post-Davante Adams trade
Green Bay Packers mock draft: 2nd round, 53rd pick
Trey McBride, TE, Colorado State
As of right now, the mock draft machines have former Colorado State tight end Trey McBride going in the late second round or early third round.
I simply cannot figure out why.
Perhaps they know something we don’t, and obviously the NFL Draft is unpredictable so you never know.
With that being said, I think McBride at pick 53 overall would be highway robbery for the Green Bay Packers.
Starting tight end Robert Tonyan is a free agent. The Packers have the opportunity to re-sign him, but even if they do, he’s coming off of a tough year injury-wise and you can’t help but wonder at this point if his 2020 season was just a blip on the radar more than anything else.
McBride is a playmaker at the tight end position with some outstanding traits at the catch point, strong hands, really good and natural ability after the catch, and excellent blocking skills.
For the life of me, I can’t figure out why he’s not being projected to go before the 40th pick or so. He’s a top 50 player in this class for me and adding both McBride and Christian Watson with back-to-back picks would make Aaron Rodgers a little bit happier after losing his pal Davante Adams.
