Dallas Cowboys Round 4 Pick: Jelani Woods, TE, Virginia

After moving Amari Cooper early in the offseason, Dallas was able to lock up Dalton Schultz for the 2022 season by way of the franchise tag. He’s become a star for them at tight end and his role could be even bigger this season with the No. 2 tight end gone as well.

Blake Jarwin was released with an injury designation and that leaves the Cowboys with Jeremy Sprinkle and Sean McKeon as the primary reserves. With that being the case, they’re likely going to look for more depth in the draft and they secure that with the selection of Jelani Woods in Round 4.

A former quarterback, Woods had 44 receptions for 598 yards and five touchdowns last season. He’s a big target at 6-foot-7 and 259-pounds and ran a 4.61 in the 40-yard dash. He could be a developmental prospect in the same mold as Schultz.

Dallas Cowboys Round 5 Pick: Sterling Weatherford, S/LB, Miami (OH)

Last season, the Cowboys added three safeties in free agency and it worked out pretty well for them. They also added a strong safety in Keanu Neal who ended up moving to linebacker and that also worked out well for them.

Here, they look to replace Neal with a draft pick as they bring in Sterling Weatherford from Miami (Ohio) with their first of three picks in Round 5. Weatherford is a big player at 6-foot-4 and roughly 220-pounds. He’s also known as a powerful tackler who recorded 98 tackles in 2019 and 66 in 2021 (he missed all but three games in 2020). He’s got the talent to be a special teams ace as well but Dan Quinn could mold him into his newest hybrid linebacker.
