Dallas Cowboys: Odell Beckham, Jr. on the radar?
By Randy Gurzi
With Amari Cooper out with the Dallas Cowboys and Allen Robinson joining the Los Angeles Rams, could Odell Beckham, Jr. finally join Big D?
The Dallas Cowboys lost two wide receivers so far this offseason as they traded Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns and saw Cedrick Wilson sign with the Miami Dolphins. They replaced Wilson with James Washington but could they be looking to Odell Beckham, Jr. to take over for Cooper?
Beckham started the 2021 season with the Browns but was released after his dad posted a video online of OBJ running routes and getting wide-open, while not getting the ball from Baker Mayfield. Beckham then signed with the Los Angeles Rams, where he won a Super Bowl and even caught a touchdown pass in the big game.
Unfortunately, he also suffered a torn ACL in the contest, his second in as many seasons. Los Angeles apparently moved on as well as they added Allen Robinson in free agency, once again leaving Beckham without a team.
Having said all that, this could open an opportunity for Beckham to join a team that his family has always favored in the Dallas Cowboys.
"“But most of all: Beckham’s family – his parents and his circle of friends – are based in Dallas, and in Texas and in Louisiana. And if they get a vote? Odell Beckham Jr. will be a Cowboy.” — Mike Fisher, SI Rams Digest"
Dallas Cowboys know how dangerous Odell Beckham can be
The Cowboys are no strangers to Odell as they played him several times while he was with the New York Giants. They were also on the wrong side of one of his most iconic receptions ever, when he grabbed the famous one-handed touchdown.
Of course, the main concern for Dallas is going to be the asking price. With OBJ coming off a second torn ACL, and the Cowboys already in a tough spot with cap space, they won’t be willing to give Beckham a massive deal.
But if he’s willing to play on a one-year contract with plenty of incentives tied into it, this could wind up being a great fit for the player and team.
For Dallas, they would continue to have a three-headed monster at receiver in CeeDee Lamb, Michael Gallup (who is also coming off a torn ACL), and Beckham. And for Beckham, it would afford him time to get healthy while also working with plenty of single-coverage opportunities thanks to the presence of Lamb and Gallup.
