NFL Power Rankings, AFC QB no. 1: Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs

Regardless of whether or not he has hot or cold stretches of play, it feels like the AFC will run through Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs for the foreseeable future, doesn’t it?

Mahomes set a career-high with 13 interceptions this past season, but it felt like it had been a long time coming for the INT totals to catch up to some of the risks he takes as a quarterback.

Ultimately, the 13 interceptions are a worthwhile price to pay for the things Mahomes can do that no one else at the position can. He’s got the magic.

Mahomes will go down as one of the most unique players at the most important position this game has ever seen. He has the ability to put his team in position to score in the blink of an eye, and you don’t nee to look any further than the Chiefs’ playoff win over the Bills for evidence of that.

A lead in the fourth quarter with only 13 seconds left in the game is not safe when you are up against Patrick Mahomes.

This guy simply knows how to make the right decisions with the football, and it’s just an innate feel for the game that can only be described by watching. Is he flawed? Sure. The man is a gunslinger and will make mistakes with the ball from time to time.

He may not be perfect, but he might be the closest thing you get with modern NFL quarterbacks.

Mahomes is the superstar among superstars. The one every other team in the NFL is chasing after. The crazy thing is, he’s only going to be 27 years old this season.
