Los Angeles Chargers: A

Key moves

  • Traded for EDGE Khalil Mack
  • Signed CB JC Jackson
  • Re-signed WR Mike Williams
  • Signed DL Austin Johnson
  • Signed DL Sebastian Joseph-Day

The Los Angeles Chargers, at the time of this writing, are on the cusp of an A+ grade for their 2022 offseason. They still need to find a starting right tackle to protect Justin Herbert and I think they also need a running back.

The biggest move this team has made, thus far, is the signing of cornerback JC Jackson, who has a whopping 17 interceptions over the last two seasons.

Jackson is a ballhawk and one of the best in the NFL at making plays on the ball. It’s shocking that the New England Patriots didn’t do more to keep him around, but maybe they know something we all don’t.

For the time being, that move remains outstanding for the Chargers on paper, as does the acquisition of Khalil Mack.

The Chargers will be hoping Mack can have some better fortune in the health department for them than he did last year for the Bears where he missed 10 games.

Trading a second-round pick for the former Defensive MVP was a no-brainer move, especially given his history with Brandon Staley.

Mack will now pair up with Joey Bosa to give the Chargers a fearsome EDGE duo when healthy, and they’ll have some help on the interior defensive line with Austin Johnson and Sebastian Joseph-Day both coming in and providing some nice upside on the interior.

The team’s decision to re-sign Mike Williams instead of tagging him also gave them further flexibility when they already had plenty.

This is how you surround a quarterback on a rookie contract.
