Key Moves

  • Traded for QB Matt Ryan
  • Traded for EDGE Yannick Ngakoue
  • Signed CB Brandon Facyson

For the majority of the first week of the 2022 NFL offseason, we’ve all been racking our brains and wondering what the Indianapolis Colts’ move was going to be at the quarterback position.

For many, the likeliest option seemed to be Jimmy Garoppolo in a trade with the 49ers. The Colts and 49ers have a solid history in the trade department and it seemed like a logical fit for Garoppolo.

Then fate dealt the Colts a pretty fortunate hand as Matt Ryan became available following the Falcons’ failed pursuit of Deshaun Watson.

For the low price of a third-round pick, the Colts got their quarterback solution for the time being, and Matt Ryan gets an opportunity on a team that gives him a legitimate shot at winning again.

The trade with the Raiders to bring in Yannick Ngakoue upgrades an already tough defensive front with the Colts, and Brandon Facyson should help ease the loss of Rock Ya-Sin on the back end.

After one week of free agency, there is still plenty of work to be done with the Colts’ roster (left tackle, for starters) but they are off to a solid start and the masses seem to think the Matt Ryan move will go over well for this team.
