The Kansas City Chiefs have traded away star wide receiver Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins. Kansas City’s offense will be drastically affected.

The Kansas City Chiefs‘ offense is probably going to be just fine with Patrick Mahomes under center, but the loss of star wide receiver Tyreek Hill is a huge loss for that unit that will have a drastic effect on the offense in 2022 and beyond.

The Miami Dolphins have acquired Tyreek Hill in a trade with the Chiefs that will send a boatload of draft picks from South Beach to Kansas City.

Tyreek Hill has been one of the top playmakers at the wide receiver position since Patrick Mahomes took over as the Chiefs’ starting quarterback in 2018.

Hill’s game-changing speed is not just impressive on the track. He plays at a faster speed than any other player at his position in the league and he’s a unique breed of receiver who is physical at the catch point, has strong hands, and plays bigger than his size.

Kansas City Chiefs could regret trading Tyreek Hill

There are plenty of fast wide receivers in the NFL. There are very few players with the kind of game-changing abilities that Tyreek Hill has.

The Chiefs’ offense will still be run well — Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes are not going anywhere — but there’s no question that the absence of Tyreek Hill is going to require Kansas City to do some significant adjusting.

Is JuJu Smith-Schuster really going to be the guy to replace that kind of production in the offense?

With all due respect to Smith-Schuster, he’s nowhere near the type of impact player that Hill is.

The Chiefs drew a line in the sand with Hill and how much they were willing to pay him on a new contract, which is understandable. With that being said, fellow AFC West foes are likely rejoicing and celebrating today because Hill, even when he’s not the one getting the ball, has been a thorn in the side of these teams for the last six years.

Since he came into the NFL, Hill has racked up 56 touchdowns including 24 touchdowns over the last two seasons.

Hill requires the attention of multiple defenders because of his playmaking ability and that’s just not something that can be said about players like Mecole Hardman.

He’s been so dynamic and as good as Patrick Mahomes is, Hill is really a major reason why the Chiefs have been such a quick-strike offense. Defenders simply cannot keep up with Hill over the course of four quarters.

Now, Kansas City will have to find a way to replace his production, which will be much easier said than done.
