The Denver Broncos have had a huge 2022 offseason under general manager George Paton. We grade every major move the team has made.

Denver Broncos fans are about ready to build George Paton a statue outside of Empower Field at Mile High after the first two offseasons he’s had as an NFL general manager.

Since coming over from the Minnesota Vikings, Paton was voted as having the best 2021 NFL Draft class and he’s traded for Russell Wilson.

Paton spent a decade turning down GM positions in the NFL, so we should have all assumed he would do everything possible to take advantage of the only opportunity he’s truly wanted to leave Minneapolis and the side of Rick Spielman.

The 2022 offseason has been a very good one for Paton and the Denver Broncos, who have made plenty of additional moves besides just adding Russell Wilson. We’re going to grade each of those moves, starting with the big trade…

Russell Wilson trade leads Denver Broncos offseason grades

Trading for Russell Wilson: A+

There’s no other way to look at this trade for the Denver Broncos besides as a major victory.

This Broncos team has been stuck in the QB purgatory carousel over the last six years, and those six years have felt like an eternity.

Six years ago, John Elway was showing his recently acquired QB Mark Sanchez around the facility. That is how far the Broncos have come with this one move.

The Broncos needed to find a long-term solution at the quarterback position, but most people assumed that if the team didn’t land Aaron Rodgers in a miraculous turn of events, it was going to be back to the drawing board for another year before worrying about the 2023 NFL Draft.

The possibility of Russell Wilson seemed like a pipe dream more than anything, but almost exactly 10 years to the day, the Denver Broncos acquired Wilson in a trade in similarly miraculous fashion to signing free agent Peyton Manning in 2012.

Wilson brings an MVP-caliber quarterback to the Mile High City, and the Denver Broncos are once again relevant in the AFC West and NFL playoff picture.
