Grades for every Denver Broncos move so far in 2022 offseason
Denver Broncos offseason grades: Signing DL DJ Jones
Grade: B+
After the Russell Wilson trade, the Denver Broncos had some holes to fill on either side of the ball. In addition to trading the Seahawks quarterback Drew Lock and tight end Noah Fant, the Broncos sent Seattle defensive lineman Shelby Harris, a key starter for the defense.
To replace Harris on the defensive line, the Broncos went out and signed San Franciso 49ers free agent DJ Jones to a three-year deal worth $30 million.
The deal Jones signed was almost identical to the three-year, $27 million deal Shelby Harris signed for the Broncos last offseason.
Jones is a younger player who has some nice upside as well. He racked up 17 tackles for loss over the last two seasons with the 49ers and he has some intriguing positional versatility.
Jones may not be a household name as a pass rusher on the interior defensive line, but he should prove to be a high-quality starter for the Denver Broncos, and perhaps his best days as a pass rusher are on the horizon.
The Broncos needed to get someone up front to pair with their budding star Dre’Mont Jones, and DJ Jones is a great fit for this defense with his quickness, strength, and tenacity.
