Denver Broncos offseason grades: Signing CB K’Waun Williams

Grade: B+

Most recently, the Denver Broncos signed nickel cornerback K’Waun Williams to a two-year deal worth $5.2 million with another $1.8 million available through incentives.

At $2.6 million per season in average annual value, K’Waun Williams is a bargain even if he’s not playing at the same speed he was in his mid-20s.

Williams has been one of the better nickel defensive backs in the NFL over the last handful of years and one of the areas he really excels in is defending the run.

Over the last two years with the 49ers, Williams has racked up 10 tackles for loss, four QB hits, and three sacks.

He’s considered a better fit for zone coverage than man coverage which is good for the Denver Broncos because Ejiro Evero’s scheme will be primarily based in a zone cover scheme.

With the Denver Broncos letting Bryce Callahan and Kyle Fuller hit free agency in 2022, depth at the cornerback position was a necessity. This move is a good start for general manager George Paton at replenishing that depth, getting a proven veteran player at a key position of need.
