Denver Broncos offseason grades: Remaining signings

LB Alex Singleton: C

The Denver Broncos brought in veteran linebacker Alex Singleton for a little over $1.1 million plus incentives.

This move should be primarily for special teams, a huge area of need for the Denver Broncos, but there are rumors that Singleton could be in line to start next to Josey Jewell. Would that be the wisest move for Denver at this point?

There might be better alternatives out there.

QB Josh Johnson: C+

The well-traveled Josh Johnson gets another gig with yet another professional football team.

At this point, it’s not an exaggeration to say that almost half the NFL has employed Johnson at one point or another. The Denver Broncos are his 14th NFL team.

His value to the Denver Broncos will primarily be in the QB meeting room but Johnson is a capable backup as well.

OL Tom Compton: B

Tom Compton is a player that has history with George Paton (once started for the Vikings) as well as Denver Broncos offensive line coach from their time last year with the San Francisco 49ers.

The veteran has experience at both guard and tackle and will provide a valuable, versatile depth piece on the offensive line.

Overall thoughts on Denver Broncos free agency

I don’t see any way this free agency haul could be viewed as anything but an A+ with the context of the Russell Wilson trade.

The acquisition of Wilson makes the Denver Broncos Super Bowl contenders, and there is no better way to invest your assets in an offseason than to acquire such a game-changing player for your franchise.

The Broncos not only acquired Wilson, but they also still have three picks in the first three rounds of the draft (one in the second, two in the third) and five picks before the top 115 are done.

The draft ammo is still there, and the team also still has over $21 million in cap space.

It’s shaping up to be a massive offseason for George Paton and the Denver Broncos. The Russell Wilson trade means their offseason grade can go no lower than A+ at this point.
