The bulk of NFL free agency is behind us, but where are the best landing spots for some of the top remaining free agents on the market?’
With the remaining waves of the NFL free agency period, teams will fill the back ends of their roster with quality depth. Some other teams may be able to find starters as well.
There are still a plethora of quality free agents left on the market that could contribute to a team in the short term.
A lot of these remaining free agents are on the wrong side of 30, though, but still have enough gas in the tank to play some good football for a contender.
Another great thing about some of the top remaining free agents is that they won’t command a ton of money anymore.
Teams who are set to contend are much more likely to invest in older but higher quality free agents left on the market. If I contending team also has a quarterback still on their rookie deal, this is even more true.
Look at teams like the Bengals and Chargers, who both have high-quality rookie quarterbacks and are ready to continue to contend. These two teams would be perfect fits for some of the top remaining free agents.
So, where are some ideal landing spots for some of the league’s top remaining free agents?
NFL Free Agency: Best spots for top remaining players
1. Julio Jones, WR
Julio Jones was traded from the Falcons to the Titans before the 2021 season. Jones only played in 10 games and was mostly ineffective with the Titans. Tennessee hoped for a solid Julio Jones-AJ Brown duo, but that never really happened.
The Titans released Jones recently, and Julio is now free to sign with any team he pleases.
To me, no fit makes more sense than the Indianapolis Colts, who just traded from Matt Ryan, who was Jones’ quarterback for 10 years.
The Colts also have a need at wide receiver, so the fit makes sense. Jones probably won’t command a ton of money on a one-year deal, and the Colts still have plenty of cap space to make this signing.
Matt Ryan is approaching the final couple of seasons of his career and is not quite able to lead a time like he did during his 2016 MVP campaign.
Signing Julio Jones to give Ryan another weapon makes his job much easier and would allow the Colts a better chance to win the AFC South.
