2022 NFL Mock Draft: Chiefs replace Tyreek Hill, Panthers land Pickett
By Randy Gurzi
29. Kansas City Chiefs (via San Francisco 49ers through Miami Dolphins): Jahan Dotson, WR, Penn State
The Kansas City Chiefs shocked everyone this week when they unexpectedly traded away Tyreek Hill. Reports seemed to surface from nowhere that the team’s star wide receiver was unhappy with contract talks and asked for a trade. And it felt like as soon as that story hit the airwaves, he was gone — as they sent him to the Miami Dolphins for a ton of picks.
This ended up being the prized selection the Chiefs gained in exchange for Hill and they end up using the pick to take a replacement in Jahan Dotson. Since he’s built similar to Hill, he will be compared to him but Dotson brings his own brand of playmaking and when put on the same field as Travis Kelce, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, he will surely find a way to make his fair share of huge plays and keep the Chiefs offense humming.
30. Kansas City Chiefs: Boye Mafe, EDGE, Minnesota
Kansas City ends up with back-to-back picks after landing No. 29 from Miami and here, they decide to add a pass-rusher as they take Boye Mafe from Minnesota. Mafe is a player who continues to rise up the draft board and while we’re all learning about how good he is now, there are countless NFL scouts who already understand how talented this kid is.
The Chiefs plan to get younger on the defensive side of the ball and Mafe is a player they can begin to build around.
