Packers and Steelers look to rebuild wide receiving corps
Green Bay Packers
In an offseason in which several NFL stars have changed addresses, arguably the most surprising was the trade of five-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro Davante Adams from Green Bay to Las Vegas. The Raiders gave up their first- and second-round picks in April to reunite the eight-year veteran with college teammate Derek Carr.
But Adams is was not the only Packers’ wideout to change teams this offseason. Four-year pros Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Equanimeous St. Brown, both drafted by Green Bay in 2018, signed free-agent deals with the Kansas City Chiefs and Chicago Bears, respectively.
As of this writing, Matt LaFleur’s club has seven wide receivers on the roster. The most productive of those a year ago was Allen Lazard, who finished third on the club with 40 catches but second on the team in receiving yards (513) and touchdown grabs (8) behind Adams.
Veteran Randall Cobb was limited to a dozen regular-season contests but averaged 13.4 yards on 28 receptions and reached the end zone five times.
Replacing Adams will not be easy. And Marquez Valdes-Scantling had his moments when he was healthy. Is veteran Julio Jones an option? Could there be a trade in the works with another team? The Packers have 11 draft choices this year, including a pair in both the first and second rounds.
