Matt Eberflus leads the Chicago Bears players who Ryan Poles signs

It doesn’t matter who Poles signs, it is Eberflus’ job to lead the troops. Despite not being an offensive mastermind, he surrounded himself with a good one, offensive coordinator Luke Getsy. Getsy comes from the hated Green Bay Packers, where he helped Aaron Rodgers. Now he is tasked with helping another possible star quarterback, Justin Fields.

Perhaps not being an offensive guru helps Eberflus. The last two offensive-minded head coaches the Bears had were Marc Trestman and Nagy. Both of them failed spectacularly. The head coach before Trestman, Lovie Smith, was a defensive-minded coach and was one of the best head coaches the franchise ever had.

Eberflus won’t go in thinking he is an offensive genius. He’ll be more open with what Getsy wants to do offensively. Of course, he’ll add his two cents in, but it will be more of a collaborative effort.

Eberflus will try to balance equal success among the offense and defense, something that escaped the Bears for decades. The Chicago Bears have always been known as the Monsters of the Midway because of their defensive dominance over the years. Offensively, though, not so much. Moving up to middle-of-the-road as an offensive would be a big step up.

Recently, Eberflus sat down for an interview in which he spoke about the team and its moves made this offseason. Here are some excerpts from that interview.
