Baker Mayfield trade spot no. 3: New York Giants

The New York Giants simply don’t have the cap space to facilitate this kind of trade right now, but if they were motivated to do it, they could likely clear up the space to make it happen.

Daniel Jones has been a turnover machine ever since coming into the NFL and while there’s reason to have hope now with Brian Daboll running the operation, you also can’t help but wonder if the Giants would just rather go with a year of Baker Mayfield and take their chances with him as opposed to taking their chances with Jones in a prove-it season.

Everyone saw what Daboll was able to do with Josh Allen in Buffalo over the last handful of seasons.

Allen’s development does not necessarily mean that Daboll is going to be able to just resurrect anyone’s career or turn their game around completely and in an instant, but it does offer some significant hope.

Mayfield working with Daboll could be a win-win for both sides. I think Mayfield has more of a shot to be a long-term option than Daniel Jones does and if Daboll could get the best out of Mayfield, it would prove that the Giants were right to hire him in the first place.

Do the Giants want to start over in the NFL Draft? Their picks could be better used elsewhere on this roster, which hasn’t been able to be effectively upgraded because of the team’s tight cap situation, but adding Mayfield as the starting QB could help Daboll and GM Joe Schoen turn this thing around quickly.
