Jimmy Garoppolo trade destination No. 1: Carolina Panthers

The team that seems to make the most sense for both Jimmy Garoppolo and the franchise is the Carolina Panthers. Matt Rhule is entering his third season as the head coach in Carolina and he’s already tried two different quarterbacks, with no success.

He did, however, have a great start to the 2021 season with Sam Darnold as the Panthers jumped out to a 3-0 lead. One of the reasons for that was that Darnold was doing a great job getting the ball to the playmakers they have on that offense.

Carolina has two explosive wideouts in D.J. Moore and Robby Anderson who could both flourish with a quarterback such as Garoppolo — who might have his flaws but is not afraid to put the ball in the air and give his guys a chance.

There’s also Christian McCaffrey, who can be one of the best running backs in the NFL when healthy. He hasn’t been healthy in years but if he can get right in 2022, and the Panthers bring in a smart game manager such as Jimmy G, this offense could end up being one to worry about.

Many rumors about the Panthers’ quarterback plans center around drafting Kenny Pickett from Pitt. A trade for Garoppolo shouldn’t hamper these plans either. He won’t cost a first-round pick and having him and Pickett work together could allow them to do as the Niners did in 2021 and win now while still trying to build for the future.
