Biggest NFL contracts at the EDGE position

Total Money: Khalil Mack, Los Angeles Chargers (six years, $141 million)

Although contracts often become outdated in today’s NFL, Khalil Mack’s total money of $141 million on a six-year deal signed with the Chicago Bears back in September of 2018 has stood the test of time.

Frankly, this may be one of the most surprising inclusions on this deep dive into the top contracts in the NFL right now because of how much money is thrown at EDGE rushers.

Mack was traded to the Chargers in the 2022 offseason and Brandon Staley hopes that he and Joey Bosa can become the top pass rushing duo in the entire league.

Average annual value: TJ Watt, Pittsburgh Steelers ($28.002M per year)

The reigning Defensive MVP almost had as many sacks (22.5) last season as he earns millions per season.

Watt’s impact on games is undeniable and just like the AFC was once represented in the Super Bowl by a Brady or Manning for a long period of time, the last decade has been dominated on defense by the Watt brothers who have a combined eight All-Pro selections and now four DPoY awards.

Watt’s contract will eventually lead to some EDGE player getting $30 million per year in the near future.

Highest guarantee: Joey Bosa, Los Angeles Chargers ($102 million)

Although he’s not always been able to stay healthy, Joey Bosa has been one of the most dominant NFL defensive players in recent years.

He did play in 16 out of a possible 17 games this past season and had 10.5 sacks with a whopping seven forced fumbles.
