Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf has been the subject of trade rumors. Where are the three best spots for the talented player?

Through three seasons in the NFL, DK Metcalf has become one of the top receivers in the league.  The talented player out of Ole Miss has been the subject of trade rumors ever since Russell Wilson got shipped to Denver.

For a rebuilding Seahawks team, there are reasons for and against trading him.

Since Wilson got dealt, I would think that Seattle would trade Metcalf for the right price.  He’s a physically imposing specimen, standing 6’4″ tall and weighing 235lbs.

Metcalf is also set to enter the final season of his rookie deal, and won’t turn 24 until the last few weeks of the season.

If Metcalf is traded, his new team is going to have to give him a rich extension, somewhere around $20 million per year over a four or five-year deal.

There’s no indication that Metcalf is unhappy in Seattle, so perhaps the Seahawks could extend him if they wanted. However, Seattle would have a ton of suitors for a talented player like Metcalf, should they entertain trade offers.

Which three teams make the most sense to acquire DK Metcalf from the Seattle Seahawks?

Three best landing spots for DK Metcalf

1. Indianapolis Colts

The Colts are set to start their 2022 season with yet another different starting quarterback.

The Carson Wentz experiment failed, so they shipped him off to Washington, and acquired Matt Ryan instead. Ryan is clearly entering the final few seasons of his career.  However, Indy can build for the future with Matty Ice.

Matt Ryan, if nothing else, is consistent.  He has thrown at least 20 touchdowns every year since 2009 and has only missed three games.

His ceiling is lower at this point, but he has a high floor, something Carson Wentz struggled with.

Now that Ryan is in town, Indy needs to make sure he has the team he needs to succeed.  They need another weapon to pair with Michael Pittman, Jr, and a left tackle.

While Metcalf and Pittman are somewhat similar players, there’s no denying how good that duo could be.

The Colts have seven picks in the upcoming draft, but no first-rounder.  I think the starting price for DK Metcalf begins with a first-rounder, so Indy would have to dip into their 2023 NFL Draft pool to make this trade happen.

But a first-rounder plus perhaps their 73rd overall pick in this year’s draft could be enough for Seattle to send DK Metcalf with Matt Ryan.

This would also give the Colts a leg up against the Titans for the AFC South crown.
