Washington Commanders worst move in 2022 NFL Free Agency

Showing a desperate hand at QB, settling for Carson Wentz, and taking on his entire contract

The Commanders were desperate for a quarterback solution this offseason, and they made sure everyone knew about it.

The Commanders had telegraphed their interest in making literally any move at the QB position to the point that they got fleeced in a trade with the only other team whose intentions were so clearly telegraphed — the Indianapolis Colts.

The Colts made it very clear they did not want to move forward with Carson Wentz at the QB position, but that didn’t prevent the Washington Commanders from sending Indianapolis a third-round pick this year, a conditional third-round pick next year, swapping second-round picks in 2022, and also taking on Wentz’s salary ($28.3 million).

The fact that next year’s conditional third-round pick can ascend to the second round if Wentz simply is able to stay healthy and play this season makes this an atrocious trade for the Commanders.

It’s not that Wentz is a horrible player. He posted some decent numbers in 2021 for the Colts. With that being said, how could you possibly justify giving up as much as the Commanders did for a player the Colts no longer wanted?

If Wentz doesn’t come in and crush it for the Commanders, this is going to be looked at as one of the more laughable trades in recent memory.
