Seattle Seahawks worst move in 2022 NFL Free Agency

The Russell Wilson trade

You’d be hard-pressed to find a worse move in the entire NFL offseason than the Seahawks doubling down on their commitment to Pete Carroll and trading away Russell Wilson.

The Seahawks got a solid return from the Denver Broncos of both players and picks in what will go down as one of the biggest trades in NFL history, but if Wilson winds up leading the Broncos to a Super Bowl, this trade will look absolutely moronic by Seattle.

Why would Seahawks ownership decide to blow up the roster with the aging Pete Carroll instead of getting a new coach in place and committing to Wilson long-term?

Were they simply offended by Wilson leaking preferred trade destinations?

Because of how willing the Seahawks were to trade Russell Wilson, it seems like this move was a top-down move, meaning ownership said to make it happen to GM John Schneider.

The Seahawks were clearly motivated to trade Wilson as much as Wilson was motivated for a change of scenery.

It’s just hard to wrap your brain around trading an MVP-caliber quarterback who has constantly given you an opportunity to contend for championships in his early 30s.

Russell Wilson has plenty of football left to be played and the Seahawks are now in QB purgatory.
