Arizona Cardinals worst move in 2022 NFL Free Agency

Letting Chandler Jones walk (and subsequently doing nothing to replace him)

Other than watching Seattle trade away Russell Wilson, it hasn’t been an objectively good offseason for the Arizona Cardinals at all.

There has been drama with starting QB Kyler Murray, likely revolving around his contract situation. The team has been almost silent in free agency aside from a couple of moves here or there.

Defensively, the Cardinals lost arguably their best overall player when Chandler Jones walked right out the door and signed with the Las Vegas Raiders on the first day of the new league year.

Losing Jones was always a possibility for the Cardinals, but why would they not have done more to re-sign him?

This year’s free agent crop dried up really fast at the EDGE rusher position, and short of signing Von Miller, could the Cardinals really have upgraded at this position, anyway?

I don’t think so.

Arizona will have to find a way now to replace some elite pass rush productivity. Even though Chandler Jones has been getting up there in age, he still had 10.5 sacks, 6 forced fumbles, and 26 QB hits in 2021.

That’s a ton of production.

Arizona is going to need to prioritize the EDGE position with their top pick if they want to have the same type of success in 2022 as we saw them have in the 2021 regular season.
