San Francisco 49ers worst move in 2022 NFL Free Agency

Not re-signing Laken Tomlinson, staying out of OG market

The more I think about the 49ers’ offseason, the more I wonder about what their “worst” move has been to this point.

Is it the fact that they let Laken Tomlinson hit the market and sign with the New York Jets?

That has to be up there.

Still, the 49ers did draft Aaron Banks last year in round two and perhaps they feel like he’s the long-term answer for losing a Pro Bowl guard like Tomlinson.

Tomlinson was a big piece of the 49ers’ offensive line and losing him does hurt.

I debated between this as the worst decision they’ve made along with the fact that the team has yet to move on from Jimmy Garoppolo.

Are they holding Garoppolo hostage? I understand that Jimmy G. has a shoulder injury which is keeping him from throwing at the moment, but if you were going to get Garoppolo into a good situation where he could start, wouldn’t you have pulled the trigger by now?

At this point, starting options around the league are starting to dry up. Garoppolo may not be able to be traded because he can’t pass a physical, but that hasn’t been officially stated by anyone.

Considering he would need to go somewhere and learn a new offense at this point, is it in Garoppolo’s best interest and the 49ers’ best interest to keep him for 2022? Would he start over Trey Lance again?

Things could get interesting here very soon.
