NFL Free Agency 2022: The worst move made by all 32 teams
Chicago Bears worst move in 2022 NFL Free Agency
Failing to upgrade the offensive line
The Chicago Bears have had an odd offseason, to say the least.
With Justin Fields’ development hanging in the balance, the Bears went out and hired Matt Eberflus, a defensive-minded head coach. I think everyone in Chicago can live with having a defensive-minded head coach if he’s the right head coach, but the jury’s out.
Then the Bears went out and hired Luke Getsy, the QBs coach of the Packers, to be their new OC. Again, that’s a promotion based on the hope that Getsy can prove himself to be an effective play-caller at the NFL level.
Then in free agency, new GM Ryan Poles traded his best defensive player, let Akiem Hicks walk, cut Danny Trevathan, and had to send his top free agency prize (DL Larry Ogunjobi) packing due to a failed physical.
From the outside looking in, it has been a horrid offseason for the Chicago Bears, who also lost Allen Robinson to the Los Angeles Rams.
The worst of all, however, is a failure to properly upgrade the offensive line.
Keep in mind, the Bears do not have a first-round draft pick. They do have multiple second-round picks in a deep offensive line draft, but the fact that they didn’t go out and get Morgan Moses at three years, $15 million? Not re-signing James Daniels?
The Bears, like the Bengals, needed to be aggressive in upgrading the offensive line, and they failed.
