Which NFL free agents got the worst contracts in 2022?

2. Foye Oluokun, Jacksonville Jaguars

Another Jaguars overpay?  Yes, please.  Oluokun had a breakout year for the Atlanta Falcons where he accumulated a whopping 192 total tackles, two sacks, and six passes defended.

It’s not that Oluokun isn’t good.  He’s OK but was massively overpaid.  He signed a three-year, $45 million deal with the Jaguars which includes $28 million in guarantees, and ranks 4th/257 at linebacker.

Oluokun is nowhere near the 4th best at his position.  He was paid like an elite, top-shelf linebacker but is anything but. According to PFF, he earned a terrible 46.4 grade in the 2021 season.

What makes this move even worse in my opinion is the Jaguars replacing Myles Jack, who is a much better linebacker, with Oluokun.

Jack signed a two-year, $16 million deal with the Steelers, which is a steal and a massive pay cut from the $57 million contract he was on with the Jaguars.

I would even argue that the Denver Broncos’ Josey Jewell is a better linebacker, and he signed for $5.5 million per year coming off a torn pectoral muscle.

I think the Jaguars would have been much better served in putting that money towards a much more valuable position like an additional offensive lineman or perhaps an edge rusher.
