DK Metcalf trade offer no. 3: Detroit Lions package

Detroit Lions receive:

  • WR DK Metcalf

Seattle Seahawks receive:

  • 2023 first-round pick
  • 34th pick

Could we see the Detroit Lions sneak in as a possible suitor for DK Metcalf?

Maybe the timing is not right for this, but the Lions are in a unique spot right now and the rumor mill is heating up that they could be primed to take a quarterback like Malik Willis with that second overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

This may not seem like a huge haul for DK Metcalf by comparison to some of the other offers, and perhaps the deal could be sweetened a little bit, but this trade would give the Seahawks essentially multiple first-round picks in 2022 with that 34th pick always presenting first-round value.

If the Seahawks added pick no. 34 to their war chest, they would have picks 9, 34, 40, and 41 before the top 50 picks are even done.

They could trade up with those picks, they could add more future capital on Draft night, or they could simply add four starting-caliber players at those spots.

Would the Lions really be motivated to make this move? They have multiple first-round picks from the Matthew Stafford trade still in 2023, so it isn’t like they would be without a top pick. The Seahawks could get that Rams pick or maybe talk Detroit into giving up their own first-round pick.

For Detroit, this would be all about pairing up a guy like Malik Willis with some serious weapons, starting with DK Metcalf and extending to breakout rookie Amon-Ra St. Brown and 2022 free agent acquisition DJ Chark.
