Denver Broncos add more pieces in 7-round mock draft
By Lucas Schuh
After a wild off-season, the Denver Broncos add more pieces to their roster through the 2022 NFL Draft
Heading into this offseason, the Denver Broncos had a major decision in front of them, and that decision was what they were going to do at the QB position. Last season the Broncos had started the likes of Drew Lock and Teddy Bridgewater, and while neither were terrible, neither showed any ability to lead the Broncos into the future.
While the Broncos had a major decision in terms of what they were going to do at the QB position, they had multiple options. Of course, the Broncos could have brought back one of Bridgewater or Lock and started one of them, but the odds were that was never going to happen for many different reasons.
Outside of retaining Lock or Bridgwater, the realistic options for Denver were from outside of the organization. The most popular and loudest option was Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers voiced his displeasure with the Packer’s top brass last offseason, which led to large amounts of speculation on if he would return to Titletown.
Rumors continued through the entirety of the regular season and part of the offseason until news broke that Rodgers signed a three-year deal to remain in Green Bay.
With Rodgers being off the table, the Broncos had fewer options, but they still had a couple of available routes, one of those being waiting for the NFL draft. The problem with waiting for the NFL draft is the fact that this draft class has a weak QB class.
Sure you have Malik Willis who impressed at the combine, but he still comes with some weaknesses also.
The other option the Broncos had was acquiring a QB not named Aaron Rodgers or one not in the NFL Draft. There were a decent amount of free agents available, but none that would raise the ceiling of the Broncos. The main option the Broncos had was Russell Wilson.
Wilson previously voiced his displeasure with the Seahawks and the offensive line they built around him, but he wasn’t nearly as loud as Aaron Rodgers was.
Ultimately, the Broncos traded for Russell Wilson, which started the Seahawks going into full rebuild mode. The Broncos traded for Wilson and a 4th round pick in 2022, and they sent out a 2022 and 2023 1st round pick, a 2022 and 2023 2nd round pick, a 2022 5th round pick, as well as Drew Lock, Noah Fant, and Shelby Harris.
The Broncos gave up a decent amount to acquire the services of Wilson, but if Wilson is as good as advertised, he will be worth the trade.
Denver Broncos can still add a ton of talent in the 2022 NFL Draft
Now that Denver has found their QB who can lead them to the playoffs, they will need to build up the team the best they can. Denver has made some moves this offseason with the signings of Randy Gregory, K’Waun Williams, and Billy Turner, but there still is work to do.
With Noah Fant now in Seattle, the Broncos have a bit of a weakness as now Albert Okwuegbunam is their starting tight end with Eric Tomlinson being the backup.
Denver also has some work to do when it comes to their linebacking group as Josey Jewell is the only decent linebacker on the roster currently. While Denver did sign Randy Gregory, they could still use some edge help as Bradley Chubb hasn’t been the greatest edge rusher in the world, while also dealing with multiple injuries throughout his career.
For this mock draft, I will be using the NFL Mock Draft Databases Draft Simulator to assist me with the unpredictability that the NFL draft can bring. Also, unlike some mock drafts that predict what teams will do, this mock draft will be what I think the Broncos should do.
