Christian McCaffrey trade option no. 2: New York Jets

New York Jets receive:

  • RB Christian McCaffrey

Carolina Panthers receive:

  • 38th overall pick
  • 146th overall pick

In this trade proposal, the Panthers get back a much better pick in return from the New York Jets than they would from the Denver Broncos, but obviously, that’s because the Jets have more to offer and more capital to work with.

Incidentally, this pick actually originally belonged to the Carolina Panthers, who sent it to the Jets in last year’s Sam Darnold trade.

Now, the Panthers send Christian McCaffrey to the New York Jets in exchange for a dynamic option at the running back position to help Zach Wilson develop.

There are some major concerns right now regarding Wilson’s development, and a playmaker like McCaffrey — if he can stay healthy — could help Wilson progress rapidly.

McCaffrey is an offense creator and getting him into Mike LaFleur’s offense with the Jets could be exactly what both parties need.

For the Jets, would this risk be worth pick 38 overall? I would say absolutely. The Jets have had a tough time convincing premier free agents to come to New York this offseason, so trading for big-name help might be their best bet.
