NFC North pre-draft roster grades

3. Detroit Lions – B-

The moves made by the Lions in free agency weren’t headline-making, but they were solid, in my opinion.  One of my favorite moves of the free agency period was the Lions signing D.J. Chark, formerly of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

They re-signed nine of their own players, which is a great move to continue building chemistry on both sides of the ball as they continue in their rebuild.

Detroit has talent on both sides of the ball.  Their offensive line is uber-talented, along with DeAndre Swift, TJ Hockenson, and the addition of D.J. Chark.

The Lions need to add some more talent on their defense, but the team is beginning to round into shape.

I liked their approach overall in free agency.  They didn’t break the bank like many other teams, and I don’t see them breaking the bank until they feel confident in competing as legitimate contenders.

Look for the Lions to draft a quarterback, move from Jared Goff in a year or two, and splurge in free agency when they have their quarterback on a rookie contract.

Maybe, just maybe the Detroit Lions can again rise to prominence in the NFC North.
