The Miami Dolphins have posted two straight winning seasons but failed to reach the playoffs each time. Is the team primed to add more veteran talent?

The Miami Dolphins have not reached the playoffs since 2016. They have also not won a division title since 2008 when the club was led by quarterback Chad Pennington and coached by Tony Sparano.

The past two seasons, Brian Flores led the “Fins to consecutive winning campaigns. But neither materialized into a postseason berth.

After three seasons. Flores was let go by the organization. Enter new head coach Mike McDaniel – late of the San Francisco 49ers. The team has been pretty active this offseason when it comes to player movement. But the club only has four picks in April’s draft – none in the first two rounds.

However, the Dolphins still have some salary cap room at their disposal (via Spotrac). And there are five veteran players out there that could bolster Miami’s roster.

Even with the hiring of Mike McDaniel, the Dolphins opted to retain defensive coordinator Josh Boyer. This unit has progressed steadily under his command but is far from a finished product.

This is a club that is still far too dependent on coming away with takeaways instead of simply shutting down the opposition.

Eight-year veteran Anthony Hitchens was released by the Kansas City Chiefs this offseason after four seasons with the club. He racked up his share of tackles but the team’s defensive unit was inconsistent in recent years.

Perhaps a change of scenery might do the former Cowboys’ performer some good as well.
