AFC East pre-draft grades

3. New England Patriots, C+

The Patriots, after having the most active free agency period last offseason, didn’t do a ton this offseason.

They let Ted Karras go in free agency, and traded away Shaq Mason, so their usually strong offensive line might be shaky.

New England did add some talent in the secondary, signing Malcolm Butler, Terrance Mitchell, and Jabrill Peppers.

They also struck a deal with the Miami Dolphins to acquire DeVante Parker, who is a decent receiver and another weapon for Mac Jones.

They re-signed eight of their own players, including long-time special teams ace Matthew Slater.

I guess New England didn’t really need to do much in free agency.  They already had a solid core of players from years past, and their spending last year was two or three free agencies’ worth.
