Dallas Cowboys trade target No. 1: Grady Jarrett, DT, Atlanta Falcons

By far, the thinnest spot on the Dallas roster is defensive tackle. They don’t have anyone who has really asserted themselves as a force in the NFL and it could do them a lot of good to put in a 3-tech who could get after the quarterback and take some of the pressure off the shoulders of DeMarcus Lawrence.

One player who could do that for them happens to have a connection with defensive coordinator Dan Quinn. Grady Jarrett of the Atlanta Falcons has had a lot of success in the NFL as he has 359 tackles, 26.5 sacks, and five forced fumbles in his seven-year career.

However, his best years came under Quinn and the two almost won a Super Bowl together — a Super Bowl where Jarrett went off and tied the record for most sacks in a single Super Bowl when he took Tom Brady down three times in the backfield.

As good as Jarrett is, there’s a real chance Atlanta might be willing to part with him. The main one being the current state of the franchise. They just traded away Matt Ryan and it appears they’re in the midst of a huge rebuild. Usually, teams that want to reload are also willing to listen to trade offers for veterans making more than $20 million per season.

Trading Garrett would free up more than $16 million of space for them and while Dallas would have to massage the numbers to make it work, it’s possible (I mean hey, look at what the Saints can do on an annual basis).

The real question is whether or not this front office will. But there’s no question that they should.
