3 Saquon Barkley trade proposals the Giants should accept immediately
The New York Giants could add even more 2022 NFL Draft capital by trading away running back Saquon Barkley. What deals should they accept?
The New York Giants have had both a massive and modest offseason so far in 2022.
Massive, because the team now has a brand-new general manager and head coach with Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll coming almost 400 miles southeast from Buffalo to East Rutherford to hopefully change the dying culture of this proud franchise.
Modest, because since making those hires, the Giants have been fairly quiet as far as making offseason moves.
Although it may not be the most popular move to make, the Giants could very well end up trading away running back Saquon Barkley before or during the 2022 NFL Draft if the price is right.
Barkley has struggled with some injuries in the last couple of years and hasn’t been even close to the impact player he was in his first two seasons in the NFL when he racked up nearly 3,500 yards from scrimmage and 23 total touchdowns.
If Schoen is presented with a compelling trade offer for Barkley, entering a contract year, he shouldn’t turn it down. What offer would be worth parting with a player who doesn’t even have 1,000 yards from scrimmage over his last 15 games?
Saquon Barkley trade the Giants should take no. 1: Houston Texans
New York Giants receive:
- 80th overall pick
- 206th overall pick
Houston Texans receive:
- RB Saquon Barkley
- 2023 6th-round pick
At this particular point in time, is it reasonable to expect anything better than a mid-3rd-round pick for Saquon Barkley?
I think the Giants would be fortunate to be able to recoup that kind of value, and lucky for them, there are teams in this year’s draft with a plethora of draft selections to work with.
One of those teams is the Houston Texans, who now no longer have Deshaun Watson under contract, but they have multiple first-round picks in the next three years and they have seven picks in the first four rounds of the 2022 Draft as well.
Adding a player like Saquon Barkley could really help the Texans fortify their backfield and even though Barkley is in the final year of his contract, the franchise tag for the running back position is under $10 million and very palatable if you have cap space flexibility.
The Texans are taking a great approach of low-risk, high-reward one-year deals and this is right in line with that.
