2022 NFL Mock Draft: Giants bet on upside, Panthers land playmaker at QB

Georgia. player. Scouting Report. EDGE. 5. 31. Pick Analysis. Travon Walker

5. New York Giants: Travon Walker, EDGE, Georgia

Travon Walker has done himself a world of good since the end of the 2021 season. He was oftentimes overlooked on the Georgia Bulldogs defensive line since there was so much talent around him but once he was by himself in workouts, he showed what a beast he can be.

Walker’s talent and athleticism have him shooting up draft boards and the New York Giants end up taking him with their first pick in this opening round. He should quickly become the focal point of their pass rush.

Scouting Report. player. 87. Liberty. Malik Willis. 6. Pick Analysis. QB

6. Carolina Panthers: Malik Willis, QB, Liberty

The Carolina Panthers seem to want Kenny Pickett but the New Orleans Saints made a huge move to land him which forces them to call an audible. Sometimes when a team is forced to do this, it winds up being a great move — which is true for the Panthers in this case.

While Kenny Pickett might seem to be a more NFL-style passer, there’s no denying that Malik Willis is the supreme athlete. And in today’s NFL, that can turn into a lot of wins — just see Lamar Jackson for an example.

This isn’t to say Willis can be Jackson but the days of being afraid of a mobile quarterback are long gone. And Carolina falling into this pick could wind up being their best move in several years.
