2022 NFL Mock Draft: 3-rounds with surprise blockbuster trades
By Randy Gurzi
11. Washington Commanders: Charles Cross, OT, Mississippi State
Heading into 2022, the Washington Commanders are putting a lot of faith in Carson Wentz. Head coach Ron Rivera could be on the hot seat this year, which is why he needed a new starter but Wentz is now on his third team in as many seasons, which is never a good sign for a quarterback.
Having said all that, he has performed well at times — especially when the offensive line gives him time. Enter Charles Cross who could become a franchise left tackle. If the Commanders want Wentz to succeed, landing a player such as Cross will make his job much easier.
12. Minnesota Vikings: Derek Stingley, CB, LSU
The Minnesota Vikings strengthened their defensive line with the signing of Za’Darius Smith, who joined them on a three-year deal. Smith’s arrival means they can address another major need on the defense at No. 12, which they do by taking Derek Stingley from LSU.
Minnesota has had some terrible luck when it comes to drafting cornerbacks but there’s a new coaching staff in town so they’re not likely to be too worried about what didn’t work with the previous regime. Instead of letting that bother them, they go for the best player on the board who also fills a huge need.
