Philadelphia Eagles Second-round pick: Tariq Woolen, CB, UTSA

The Eagles need to double down on secondary help in the 2022 NFL Draft. Since they missed out on a cornerback in the first round, taking one on Day 2 was a no-brainer. Darius Slay is one of the best corners in the league, but he doesn’t have any help. Zech McPhearson is solid, but he’s better suited as a rotational corner and special teams ace.

Small-school prospect UTSA Tariq Woolen is an ideal fit for Jonathan Gannon’s defense. The one-year defensive coordinator is a versatile play caller with a bend don’t break philosophy. He’s used to coaching big physical corners who can press.

The 6-3 Woolen has great length and good feet as a press corner. He’s an elite athlete with 4.26 speed who’ll excel in either man or zone coverage. He has offensive tackle arm length and a 42-inch vertical. He’ll likely hear his name called at some point on Day 2 — it might as well be by the Eagles.

Third-round pick: Brian Asamoah, LB, Oklahoma

Eagles fans know how their defense has needed a linebacker for some time. They should look to add a linebacker on Day 2 of the 2022 NFL Draft. Getting a potential game-changer is possible in the third round — Brian Asamoah has that potential.

Asamoah is an athletic space-eater who covers ground as a chase linebacker. He’s a coverage linebacker with a 79-inch wingspan that allows him to swallow ball carriers.

In coverage, his length and 4.56 speed come into play. The former Sooners ILB matches up well in coverage against backs, tight ends, and big slots. He’s an ideal fit as an off-ball outside backer who’ll help add speed and coverage to the Eagles. However, thanks to his ability to defeat blockers, attack downhill, and drop in coverage — he can lineup anywhere.
