Buffalo Bills 2022 mock draft, first-round pick

1. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Andrew Booth Jr. Clemson. 879. Cornerback

One of the things that helped the Bills in recent years has been their number of quality cornerbacks. There is Levi Wallace, Taron Johnson, and even Josh Norman had an okay 2020 season, but of course, the best one of them all has been Tre’Davious White.

Since White came into the NFL he has easily been one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL.

Unfortunately for White, he hurt his ACL last season which caused him to miss out on the later part of the season. It also doesn’t help Buffalo’s case that they lost their other outside corner in Levi Wallace as he signed a 2-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

White should be returning to the Bills by the time the season starts, but the other outside cornerback position is a bit of a question mark with the absence of Wallace.

One thing that comes across when you’re watching Booth play is his physicality and frame. Booth is 6’0 but has the arm length of man 4 inches taller than him. With his long arms, Booth is not afraid at all to get physical with cornerbacks or blockers in the run game.

Booth also explodes out his pedal, especially with his eyes on the receiver. Booth also has pretty clean feet and good positioning.

While Booth has a lot of good things going for him, there are of course some negatives. Booth doesn’t have the long-distance speed that you’d ideally like. Booth’s biggest weakness doesn’t come from his coverage skills, but in the run game with his tackling ability.

Booth is just flat-out reckless when it comes to tackling. It’s good that he wants to make tackles and has the right attitude for it, but there are far too many times that he leaves his feet unnecessarily and just has poor technique at times.

One of the best things about Booth is that he can fit into almost any scheme. Need him to be a press corner and get into the body of wide receivers? He can do it. Need him to be an off-ball corner and keep his eyes on receivers/quarterbacks and make drives on the ball?

He can do that as well. Sure he has a tackling weakness, but that should be able to be fixed, especially with a man of his size.

The addition of Booth would be a great one for the Bills as he should be able to step into the outside cornerback position on day one.

Other Players Considered: Kaiir Elam, Kenyon Green, Zion Johnson
