Dallas Cowboys trade-up target No. 1: Kayvon Thibodeaux, EDGE, Oregon

The one player who is being mentioned the most — and would also cost the most to obtain — for Dallas is Oregon defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux. Not long ago, Thibodeaux was being touted as the No. 1 overall pick but then he started to slip.

There have been questions about his love for the game and on top of that, players such as Aidan Hutchinson and Travon Walker have been jumping ahead of him in just about every mock draft. Because of this, Dallas has been said to have their “radar up” concerning a possible fall, which could prompt them to make a move.

Of course, even with Hutchinson’s recent slide, it’s hard to see him falling out of the top-15 — and with the Eagles at 15, they would likely have to jump up to 14 in a trade with Baltimore or 13 with the Texans.

If they do make such a move, it might cost them their second-round pick, but that could be worth it for a player with the talent Thibodeaux possesses, especially considering their recent opening at the position.

Early in free agency, Dallas botched a contract negotiation with Randy Gregory, leaving them with Dante Fowler and Dorance Armstrong across from DeMarcus Lawrence. Thibodeaux, while expensive, would be an upgrade and in the end, the Cowboys might be even better than had they signed Gregory.

This won’t absolve them of all blame but it would at least make them better in 2022.
