Green Bay Packers land pass rush help in 2022 mock draft

Well, the Packers have a type when it comes to receivers, they also have a type when it comes to edge rushers and defensive linemen. Like the receiver position, Packers like athletes when it comes to the edge rusher position.

Looking at the edge rusher position for Green Bay, the current two starters would likely be Rashan Gary and Preston Smith.

Smith and Gary will likely be leading the Packers edge-rushing group for the time being, but the past couple of years have been dominated by Za’Darius Smith who the Packers signed in free agency after he left Baltimore. Now Smith has landed with the Packer’s division rival, the Minnesota Vikings.

While Preston Smith has been a quality edge rusher for the Packers, that likely won’t stop the Packers from drafting an edge rusher. When the Packers signed Za’Darius and Preston, they still drafted Rashan Gary to ensure they had a long future, so this pick has multiple reasons because of the player as well as what the Packers could actually do.

Drake Jackson is a fantastic athlete and one that the Packers would love. The biggest thing that pops off of Jackson’s tape is his bend as he is able to keep his body clean and slip past offensive lineman. To pair along with his elite bend ability, Jackson also uses his long arm to his advantage.

The biggest problem that Jackson has is that he has very little power when it comes to pass rushing. Jackson has no bull rush move, and when he tries to translate from speed to power, it very rarely works. It also doesn’t help Jackson’s case that he can get slowed down a lot by a bunch that lands cleanly.

Jackson won’t be a major impact pass rusher immediately for the Packers, but he still has some ability to make an impact, and he has a massive ceiling with his young age and great athleticism.

Other Players Considered: Trey McBride, Perrion Winfrey, Abraham Lucas
