Green Bay Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst talks to the media about the 2022 NFL Draft on April 25, 2022, at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis.Gpg Gutekunst 042522 Sk24 /

Despite having two round one picks, the Packers made two surprising picks, but there are plenty of players they could target during day 2

After the playoff game against San Francisco in which the Packers lost, Packer fans were obviously very nervous. There was very little news coming out in regards to Rodgers and if he would stay in Green Bay or not.

It took a while for the news to come out, with the only real news being whenever Rodgers went on the Pat McAfee Show.

News eventually broke that Rodgers would stay in Green Bay, but while Rodgers did make it known that he was returning to Green Bay, Packer fans didn’t have much time to breathe.

The news would eventually break that Davante Adams would be leaving the Packers as he was traded to the Raiders for multiple draft picks. While the Packers had their star QB, they didn’t have their star wide receiver going into free agency and the draft.

In terms of free agency, the Packers didn’t do much. Green Bay signed former Chiefs defensive tackle Jarren Reed and wide receiver Sammy Watkins. Nothing really of note, but signings nonetheless.

Going into the draft, Packers fans were hoping and expected the team to draft a receiver. While fans wanted the Packers to snag a receiver, things got a bit crazy.

The first receiver that went off the board was Drake London at 8, with plenty more receivers to follow as the Jets would take Garrett Wilson, the Saints would trade up wth Washington and take Chris Olave, and the Lions would trade up with the Vikings to take Jameson Williams.

In a matter of five picks, four receivers went off the board.

Before the Packers got their turn, more receivers would go off the board as Jahan Dotson would go to Washington, and Treylon Burks would land in Tennesee. Six receivers in total went off the board before the 22nd pick in the draft that the Packers had.

While plenty of receivers went off the board, there were still some players that Packer fans wanted, notably George Pickens.

If you told Packer fans that the Packers took a big, athletic Georgia player, they likely would have been excited, but the Georgia player wasn’t the one they wanted. Green Bay selected Quay Walker, who is a very athletic linebacker, and fits the type of players that the Packers like. Green Bay had another pick a few picks later, and between those picks, no receiver went.

Once again, the Packers took a big, athletic Georgia player, but it wasn’t the one a lot wanted as they took Devonte Wyatt. Wyatt played alongside Jordan Davis at Georgia along the defensive line.

Both Walker and Wyatt could turn out to be quality players, especially Wyatt, but the Packers still need some help at the receiver position.

Heading into day 2, the Packers have three picks at numbers 53, 59, and 92. Thankfully for Packer fans, there are still plenty of quality players, and receivers available.
