Cleveland Browns pick No. 99: Jalen Tolbert, WR, South Alabama

It might be upsetting to some watching the Cleveland Browns let all the big-name wide receivers go as they bolster their defensive line, but it could be the right move.

With Amari Cooper and Donovan Peoples-Jones under contract, they have two solid options — they could also still be getting Jarvis Landry back and there’s a chance Will Fuller is still an option.

On top of that, this class has talent that can still be found at pick No. 99, which is where they find Jalen Tolbert from South Alabama. Tolbert didn’t play at a big program but many scouts believe he can develop into a real threat in the NFL. The Draft Network even said he can eventually become a No. 1 option in the NFL.

"“Tolbert possesses a good combination of size and speed that makes him a versatile receiver for the South Alabama offense. Tolbert has the speed to be a vertical threat and also has the strength and size to become a good run-after-catch receiver. Tolbert has a high upside as a player. If he continues to work on the small intricate details of being a receiver, like becoming a detailed route-runner, Tolbert can develop into a No. 1 receiving option in an NFL offense.” — The Draft Network Analyst Report"

The good news for Cleveland is that they don’t even need him to be a No. 1 guy. Right now, he would be battling Anthony Schwartz for the third spot and that’s a job he can handle from day one, while potentially developing into a major player in this offense.
