The Dallas Cowboys might have been guilty of a reach in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft but they could still land some talented players on day two

Tyler Smith could prove to be a very good player for the Dallas Cowboys but as of now, it appears this might have been a reach on their part. Much like when they were zeroed in on a pass rusher in 2017 — and ended up with Taco Charlton — Dallas seemed content to go after the best offensive lineman who could play guard or tackle.

With players capable of starting on day one such as Zion Johnson and Kenyon Green off the board, they took Tulsa’s Tyler Smith. Now, watching Smith it’s easy to see what they like. He’s a beast who can completely bully the opponent.

The problem is, he gets way too physical — to the point where he was flagged more than just about any collegiate lineman. For Dallas, this is already a major issue as they were the most penalized offensive line in the league.

So instead of landing a player who will help fix their biggest problem on the line, they might have created more of an issue.

Having said all that, their drafting in recent years should afford them some trust, but with guys such as Jermaine Johnson and George Karlaftis on the board — who would be day one starters at EDGE which is another major need —‚ Dallas might have done better not to pick a player who needs refinement in an area where they already struggle.

The good news, however, is that there are still players left who can improve their team. We look at two of those on this day two 2022 NFL Mock Draft.
