Dallas Cowboys Draft Pick 88: Khalil Shakir, WR, Boise State

After filling two potential starting spots in Round 1 and Round 2, the Dallas Cowboys now look to add depth to a position that lost two key players in the offseason. One of those players was Amari Cooper, who was traded to the Cleveland Browns for practically nothing.

While they hope the ascension of CeeDee Lamb and re-signing of Michael Gallup will keep their starting team elite, they did lose Cedrick Wilson who had a breakout season in 2021.

Wilson, who is now in Miami, was a key part of the offense’s success last season and the Dallas Cowboys need to find someone who can be the No. 3 guy in this offense to keep things humming.

They did add James Washington who could be a decent pick-up but counting on him alone might not be the best idea. That’s why they use the 88th pick in this draft to bring in Khalil Shakir from Boise State.

Anyone who follows Dallas knows their affinity for Boise State products. Offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, and linebacker Leighton Vander Esch are all products of Boise State. Cedrick Wilson was also from the Broncos pipeline as was Tyrone Crawford who spent many years being the team’s Swiss Army Knife on the D-line.

As for Shakir, he could be a solid addition as a player with solid route running, 4.4 speed, and the ability to beat zone coverage underneath as well. He’s also pretty good after the catch and had a highly productive senior season with 77 receptions for 1,117 yards and seven touchdowns.

Again, the Dallas front office deserves some credit for the moves they have made in recent years and they can still find a haul on day two.
