After trading up with the New England Patriots, the Kansas City Chiefs addressed their secondary issues with the selection of Trent McDuffie.

The Kansas City Chiefs had a good season in 2021, only to blow an 18-point lead in the AFC Championship against the Bengals.

Additionally, their defense had plenty of holes that were exposed in the loss.

As such, the team needs help, and in free agency, they did address that area with the signing of Justin Reid. However, the cornerback position was thin and needed reinforcements.

Thankfully, this draft class had plenty to offer. Despite the top five picks having two corners taken, there were several other players that warranted 1st round consideration.

So, by making a trade with the New England Patriots, the Chiefs head further west and select Washington’s, Trent McDuffie.

The tape shows a player not afraid to get his hands dirty, and more importantly, he is willing to go after the ball consistently instead of staying firmly in coverage.

The Kansas City Chiefs address an area of need with the selection of Trent McDuffie.

Over three seasons, Trent McDuffie recorded 94 tackles, one sack, two interceptions, and eight pass deflections.

In other words, he’s physical. Also, the tape shows fluidity and the ability to stay with the receiver. He also has that competitive spirit that coaches salivate over.

While his size may be a concern, it shouldn’t hinder him from thriving in the Chiefs scheme. Also, playing in a zone-based defense may have limited him to some degree, but with better coaching, those issues will disappear.

The Chiefs needed help, and they made a move up the board to get a player that they liked. Trent McDuffie may not start right away, but with time, he may find himself starting against some of the division’s and the league’s best players.
