The Seattle Seahawks look like they are really committed to Drew Lock for the 2022 season. They have passed on quarterbacks with their top three picks.
The Seattle Seahawks seem to be unofficially declaring it, so let’s just say it.
It’s Drew Lock SZN in Seattle.
The Seattle Seahawks had three picks within the top 50 after their blockbuster trade with the Denver Broncos for quarterback Russell Wilson.
None of those three picks were used on the quarterback position.
Seattle Seahawks seem to be getting behind Drew Lock
With their top pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Seahawks drafted Mississippi State offensive tackle Charles Cross to fill the hole at the left tackle position from the vacated Duane Brown.
In round two, they had back-to-back picks at 40 and 41 and used them on pass rusher Boye Mafe as well as running back Kenneth Walker.
The Cross and Walker picks are not necessarily for Drew Lock, but it does seem like the Seahawks are going to take their chances with the former second-round pick out of Missouri and give him an opportunity to show what he can do with the one year remaining on his contract.
That’s a worthwhile dart throw considering the weapons the Seahawks have offensively.
Let’s take a quick look with some of their additions in 2022, not including the offensive line which now features first-round pick Charles Cross.
QB: Drew Lock
RB: Kenneth Walker, Rashaad Penny
WR: DK Metcalf, Dwayne Eskridge
WR: Tyler Lockett
TE: Noah Fant, Will Dissly
Lock obviously had some solid weapons with the Denver Broncos as well, but he’s got another pretty decent opportunity before him with the Seattle Seahawks. Shane Waldron is calling the plays and Lock will be in an offense that better suits his skills.
Even with all his struggles in Denver, Lock was always very solid on play-action and that will be utilized much more in Waldron’s offense than it was in Pat Shurmur’s.
Who knows what could happen in the coming days or weeks. Maybe the Seahawks will swing a trade for Baker Mayfield still, but that seems like a distant possibility.
For the time being, Drew Lock can rest well knowing the Seahawks passed on viable starting options in this year’s draft.
