The Dallas Cowboys added two players on the second night of the 2022 NFL Draft who will be contributors during their rookie seasons

In Round 1, the Dallas Cowboys could be criticized for adding a Tyler Smith, who was flagged often in college — which was already an issue for them on the offensive line. However, on Day 2, they more than redeemed themselves.

With their second-round pick, No. 56 overall, Dallas took Ole Miss defensive end Sam Williams. Measuring in at 6-foot-4 and 261-pounds, Williams looks the part and even ran a sub 4.5 in the 30-yard dash.

He’s an explosive pass-rusher and while he’s not known for his ability to stop the run, he could be a great replacement for Randy Gregory who also lived mainly on his ability to penetrate the backfield.

Williams really took off in 2021 with 12.5 sacks for the Rebels but he does have some off-field concerns as he was accused of sexual battery, although the charges were dropped. As long as he can stay on the right path, he should be a player who gets after the quarterback much in the same way Gregory could.

Then at pick No. 88, they made another great pick as they added Southern Alabama wide receiver Jalen Tolbert. While he didn’t play against elite competition in the Sun Belt Conference, Tolbert put up some impressive numbers as he had 1,474 yards and eight touchdowns in 2021 and 1,084 yards and another eight touchdowns the season prior. More importantly, he had 17.6 yards per reception.

Like Williams, he too will fill a spot vacated by a free-agent departure. Tolbert will likely occupy the spot left open by Cedrick Wilson, who headed to the Miami Dolphins.

Tolbert did have some issues with drops this past season but that wasn’t the case before then. As long as he can get that cleaned up, he can end up being a great fit in this pass-happy offense.
